Halfway through treatment.
Yesterday, we had another visit with Dr. Paley. It was one of the most important check-ups. We have definitively finished the lengthening for this stage of treatment. Although the tibia bones are shorter than those of her healthy peers, what is more important to us—most important, in fact—is that they are even and straight. Antosia has finally taken a liking to the doctor’s office, Dr. Paley, and his Assistants. And that is about all, or perhaps as much as, the good news.
Unfortunately, the bone in her right leg is not calcifying as we would like. If there is no improvement over the next 4 weeks, then in 6 weeks Antosia will face an additional surgery involving a bone graft from her pelvis to the poorly calcifying tibia. We also need to rotate the position of her foot by about 10 degrees, as it is poorly aligned with her kneecap.
We can only have faith that the condition of the bone in her right leg will improve and that the additional surgery won’t be necessary…:/
