Helping
I have always known that being in good health obligates me to help others. This very capability should compel everyone to act. That is why I have always been impressed by and found great satisfaction in water rescue, then blood donation, and many other smaller forms of helping others as well. That is also why, a few years ago, I registered in the bone marrow donor registry, hoping that one day someone might need this small part of me.
Now, an opportunity has arisen. Last week, the DKMS Foundation contacted me regarding this matter. Tomorrow, my blood sample will go to the laboratory for final compatibility confirmation. The entire procedure can take up to three months, so please keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well.
It may seem naive, perhaps it even is naive, but I have always believed that goodness returns to us. I would like that goodness to return to Antosia instead of me. I hope she encounters people who will help her in her difficult battle with fibular hemimelia, that the absence of fibulae and other lower limb deformities will not bring only negative emotions into her life, and that she will find friends along her way who will love her just as we do.
P.S. We have a tough two weeks ahead of us: 7 days away from home, 3000 km to drive. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
Give Antosia mobility
Every donation directly helps fund the next surgeries and thousands of hours of rehabilitation.
