Otwock – the third attempt
The idyllic peace never lasts too long, and the first problems have begun… A pressure sore developed under the cast on Antosia’s right leg (the slightly worse one). After a quick night-time trip to the emergency room in Koszalin, we learned that we shouldn’t put the splint back on. This was another blow for us, as we already knew then that another trip to Otwock lay ahead…
We decided that Antosia would go on this trip with her dad. To our surprise, it turned out that the fastest and, at the same time, cheapest means of transport from the west coast to Warsaw is by plane. And that is how Antosia took to the skies for the first time—and so did I, for that matter. Below, I am sharing a photo of us together.
We left quite early, at 5:30 AM. We had about a 1.5-hour car drive ahead of us. Then a one-hour flight, followed by two trains and a 30-minute walk. On the way back, it was the same story… Antosia handled the flights very well. She barely cried at all, neither during takeoff nor landing—what a brave girl. For her, this whole trip was just a very long walk with her dad. For me too, basically, but “mega” exhausting. It would be much simpler if there were fewer obstacles for strollers in our capital. This is a topic for a separate post, so there is no need to delve into it now. I just wonder how disabled people in wheelchairs navigate this city?
Regarding the visit itself: Until the pressure sore heals, we are putting the splint aside. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of the foot position correction. But the heel is more important, so we humbly follow the doctors’ recommendations. This could take over a month, so we didn’t even apply new dressings. The left foot is correcting very well, and that is comforting news.
P.S. The role of a father is probably not appreciated enough in our society. At least five people I crossed paths with that day couldn’t believe that I was managing on my own with such a tiny baby for so many hours of travel. Incredible… Of course, I send my best to everyone and confirm that we landed back around 8:00 PM, where a loving mom was already waiting for us, and we safely drove home together for some well-deserved rest.
