Pushing Minnie.

Antosia Wieczorek

From March to the end of May, we had many difficult moments. Antosia’s right leg was constantly contracted at the knee. Antosia didn’t want to walk at all. She would have gladly watched cartoons all day, and from day to day, it felt like instead of getting better, things were getting worse…

The breakthrough came with the third surgery (which we hope is the last one in this stage of treatment). To our surprise, just 4 hours after waking up, Antosia started standing up. Day by day, we see immense progress. She is becoming increasingly independent. The walker, which she swapped yesterday for a doll stroller (she pushes a little Minnie Mouse in it), seems to be there only for support.

Our daughter still has years of hard work ahead of her. She faces knee correction, resolving the contracture in her right leg, ongoing rehabilitation, and learning how to place her feet correctly, and in a few years, probably further lengthening procedure(s). However, thanks to these results and the happiness written all over Antosia’s face as she pushes tiny Minnie around on her own and runs away from her younger sister and parents, we know it was WORTH IT.

We are still waiting for those dreamed-of, fully independent steps, but we feel they are coming very soon… Just like our return home…
