Reconstruction?
At the end of January, we met with Dr. Paley for a consultation in Austria. We are slowly starting to discuss the second, multi-month stage of treatment for congenital fibular hemimelia. This time, it will involve a complex reconstruction of the right ankle joint combined with lengthening of the right tibia. The need for another reconstruction arises because the right heel bone has shifted upward, and her entire weight rests on a small part of her tiny foot. Currently, this causes limitations in the form of pain during longer walks and difficulty finding shoes, but over time, it could significantly limit the foot’s functionality and make independent movement impossible. The treatment should begin between August and October of this year.
The National Health Fund (NFZ) refused to accept our application for the continuation of treatment. The preliminary cost estimate for the treatment is $171,000. We are trying to negotiate these costs, but they will still be enormous.
We would be extremely grateful if you decided to share your 1% tax donation with Antosia this year and help us continue the treatment, which has already yielded wonderful results.

Antosia gets so much out of being able to walk. She doesn’t sit still. She loves swimming, running, and doing headstands. She is a very active and joyful child. Recently, she even got permission from the doctor to try skiing, and of course, she stubbornly practiced until she successfully completed the designated slalom course.
We are so happy to see how she is seizing the opportunity given to her by so many people… given to her by Dr. Paley!
Thank you!
