Months fly by one after another. We have lost ourselves in daily responsibilities and have practically forgotten about the difficult treatment in the USA. We are reminded of it by regular visits to X-ray rooms, doctor’s offices, and rehabilitation rooms. Although Antosia loves the latter and is very eager to go back there. Thanks to this, she shines in playrooms.
At the end of February, we had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Shadi in Poznań and assess the current progress of her treatment. This is what the valgus correction of Antosia’s right leg with an 8-plate looks like now. The first X-ray is from October 2014 (approx. 3-4 months after insertion), the second is current. A big improvement can be seen in the right leg. It will probably need to be removed this year.
Dr. Shadi wondered if this might be a good time to place two 8-plates on the left leg – on the femur and tibia on the medial side. However, we leave the decision to Dr. Paley, whom we will see between April 2nd and 4th in Warsaw.
Currently, the limb length discrepancy is about 2 cm. The right foot requires a slight correction. We are still wondering when the right moment to perform it will be. For now, we are focusing on rehabilitation and Antoninka’s general development. Antosia bravely trains all her muscles and balance. She is learning to stop in place and control her every step. Seemingly simple activities, unattainable just a year and a half ago, are becoming trivial for her, which pleases and delights us every day. She is also exercising her left hand (the clever one), where she had one finger separated in April 2015.
We have routine check-ups every 3 months in Poland, and we meet with Dr. Paley up to every 6 months when possible. We are also applying for NFZ coverage for the reconstruction of her right foot.
