Treatment Costs

Over the past week, we have received a few messages asking: “what will we do with the money raised for Antosia’s treatment?” I will try to explain the situation regarding our Antosia’s treatment and rehabilitation as clearly as possible. Generally speaking, the money raised for her treatment will be used for our daughter’s treatment and rehabilitation.

The NFZ has agreed to cover the costs of the first stage of treatment: October 2013 - May 2014; this does not include the cost of painkillers administered after discharge from the hospital during the initial wound healing and lengthening phase, dressings, flights, or accommodation. The money raised during numerous campaigns and through many donations is held in a sub-account at the Foundation.

If the first stage of treatment is successful, we would like to use the gathered funds to cover:

• two subsequent, non-reimbursed surgeries (each costing approximately PLN 320,000)
• follow-up visits in the USA. The child’s bones are growing rapidly, and check-ups (about once a year) will be essential
• rehabilitation. It is possible that Antosia will require specialized limb rehabilitation for the rest of her life, and certainly until the end of her growth phase
• orthopedic shoes, orthopedic insoles
• if we find a suitable solution to improve her left arm’s function, we would also like to have it operated on

Due to the rapid growth of bones and joints, the absence of fibulas, and severe defects in the feet, children with similar conditions are highly prone to injuries. Even the smallest injury can have very serious consequences and will require immediate, additional corrections and surgeries. Financially, treating this condition is often a bottomless pit…

My husband and I are both professionally active, and we hope that with our salaries, the funds raised so far, and the help of our loved ones, we will be able to provide our daughter with the best medical care—which is what we have been fighting for since Antosia was born <3
