Treatment is more than just pain and suffering

Treatment is more than just pain and suffering

It has been 67 days since Antosia’s surgery. A lot has happened during this time in Antosia’s life and ours. I can safely say that our life is like a real rollercoaster of emotions. From the extremely positive ones to the worst, which each of us wants to forget as quickly as possible. We live in constant stress and uncertainty about what tomorrow will bring. At the same time, we try to make the most of every day we can spend together, and this is the thought I wanted to share.

It is not painkillers that best combat Antosia’s pain associated with wearing external fixators and bone lengthening. We constantly try to distract Antosia so that she forgets about it completely. That is why we try to meet with other children often, go to the pool, and take trips to the zoo, safari, and various other parks. We know that we cannot eliminate the pain completely, but if there are ways to reduce it, we must do so. We are convinced we are doing the right thing. This is confirmed by Antosia’s progress, which we observe every day. Sometimes these are just tiny “baby steps,” but any parent is able to spot them. We would like every child’s treatment to be associated not only with pain and constant suffering, but also with smiles, play, and exploring the world.

Antosia’s condition, like that of many other children, cannot be completely cured. We have to learn to live with it and make the most of this life despite the adversity. This is what we want for Antosia, and this is what we fight for every day. I hope we will never run out of strength and perseverance.
